Welcome Week at Del Mar International
Josephina Nor Lantzman and Chello Z took top honors in the Grand Prix of the Pacific, during Welcome Week at the Del Mar International Horse Show. The hotly-contested class had 33 entries and Josephina edged out Irishman Darragh Kenny and his Chin Quidam VDL for first by only .03 seconds. Bliss Heers and her ride Contendra 22 won third behind first place by .33 seconds! The riders kept their turns tidy and maintained a quick pace to cover a course designed by Marina Azevedo.
In Friday's Open Stake, Karl Cook bested the class aboard Farrari, with Justin Resnik coming in second on Copias and Jamie Barge rounding out the top three with Lasse.
The final class Friday evening was the Fleeceworks Hunter Derby Grand Prix, presented by Mark and Julie Hancock of Camelot Homes, the final Hunter Derby qualifier for the year. With 23 entries of top notch riders and horse, the exciting class saw three horses return for a work-off: Jenny Karazissis on Undeniable, Buddy Brown on Finally Ours and Jenny on a second mount, Y Wonder Y.
In an unfortunate event, Jenny was eliminated from the work off on Y Wonder Y because they began prior to the buzzer being sounded for their round. Brown and Karazissis went head to head on their Finally Ours and Undeniable, respectively. Both riders had impeccable rounds, with Karazissis just outing Brown for first place, Brown finished his handy round for a second place finish. Karazissis picked up third place on Y Wonder Y to round out the top three placings.
