Georgette Topakas knew her all-natural skin and wound care company would someday outgrow the six-burner Viking stove in her family's Santa Barbara kitchen. Since making Zephyr's Garden's products available to the public six years ago, the company's herbal-based salves, ointments, shampoos, sprays, liniments, calmatives and hoof care products have become stable staples for those who favor effective, chemical-free remedies.
Georgette created her first products for her own horse, the show hunter Zephyr, who was struggling with all manner of skin issues when turned out to pasture for a lay-up. Friends saw the results, began asking for samples and soon the business was off and running. The products' effectiveness propelled Zephyr's Garden to national recognition quickly, as did the company's constant support of various horse-related charities and events.
Zephyr's Garden outgrew Georgette's kitchen capacity last summer and the time came to seek a buyer who could fulfill the company's mission on a larger scale. The proprietor admits it's hard to let her "baby" go, but the decision was greatly eased by finding what she considers the perfect partner in Uckele Health and Nutrition of Blissfield, MI. For over 50 years, Uckele Health & Nutrition has manufactured thousands of products of the highest quality from start to finish in its GMP-certified facility. Family owned for three generations, the company uses proven research and advances in science. Uckele is a trusted leader in the formulation, development and manufacture of a vast array of high potency, balanced nutritional supplements to support optimal health and performance at the highest level.
"Zephyr's Garden will have a wonderful new home with Uckele Health," states Georgette. "It was time for the company to expand and Uckele embodies the goals and ideals this company was founded on. I'm very excited for this next phase and felt our unique products were a perfect fit to the existing Uckele equine and canine offerings. With new ownership there will be larger manufacturing and distribution capacity, enabling the products to be available far beyond our current levels. It's a win/win for everyone, especially the horses!"
"I am very pleased with this acquisition," states Mike Uckele, CEO, and a founder member and current board member of the National Animal Supplement Council. "We appreciate this opportunity to acquire a company of Zephyr's Garden's reputation for quality formulas in the equine topical industry. We were impressed with not only their business acumen, but with the innovative aspect of their products. We share their core values, their passion for optimal health and their priority for customer service.
"Our team looks forward to moving the company forward with these unique formulas and to expanding our product range for our customer base." Mike emphasizes that, although Zephyr's Garden will now be identified as a Uckele Company, the product branding and formulas will remain unchanged.
