Riding Magazine's Hot Off the Press - aka Abbie
1995-2013 • A horse of a lifetime!

I learned last month that my amazing mare Abbie died last month after sustaining severe injuries in a pasture accident. I was lucky enough to buy Abbie from trainer Breanna Lombardo in Jan. of 2008. Bree had shown her in the jumpers and I bought her to show in the Adult Amateur Hunters on the Greater San Diego Hunter Jumper circuit. Every day I told my trainer and good friend Nancy Reed how much I loved Abbie. We were a match from the start, earning good ribbons from our first time out at the Sweetwater Farms horse show through the 21 months we were together. I never won so many blue ribbons, ending up year-end champions in both Low and Regular AAs in 2008. Even though I had to sell her before the end of 2009 season, we hung on to reserve champion in both divisions. The down turn in the economy forced me to sell her and it was one of the hardest things I had to do. I was lucky that her next owners, the Saxons, loved her as much as I did. Melina Saxon had great rides on her and even Melina's mom and dad Alexa and Richard loved riding her. After it was time for Abbie to retire from the show ring, Bree took her back to let her live out her life in pasture. She will be missed by all of us that knew her and she's a horse I will never forget.

We also lost another amazing horse person last month My friend and hunter jumper trainer Ronnette Bowman Leja lost her mom Jenny Belle Bowman to cancer on Oct. 1. Jenny Belle was the ultimate horse show mom. She encouraged Ronnette's riding and groomed, supported her through out her extensive and successful junior career and continued to help out at all Ronnette's horse shows up until she was hospitalized in September. A celebration of life will be held Nov. 17th at the Descanso Town Hall. In lieu of flowers, Jenny Belle had asked that donations be made in her name to The Friends of the Descanso Library,
