HOME NEEDED: PIKANERO

11 year old Hanovarian gelding up for adoption at FalconRidge Equine Rescue. Pikanero is the son of grand prix jumper Pikadero. He has not been ridden most of his life, but was kept as a pet by his owner, who recently passed away. He is 17 hands tall and currently in training for ground manners. Gorgeous horse. He has a small amount of ringbone on his left front and should be manageable. He is sound for basic riding, no jumping. Call 760-742-0285 for inquiry. Adoption fee $1000.

Last month we ran the article on an organization, United Horsemen, that supports the return of horsemeat processing and we received some responses via e-mail and on our Facebook page. See letters to the editor on page 10. One of our readers thought we are in favor of horse slaughter because of the article. As for me personally, I would prefer no horses go to slaughter. Either they should be retired or euthanized if I could choose. But it's not up to me for all the horses in the United States. It's up to all of us. And I feel it's up to me and our team to let all of you know what is happening on this touchy issue. I think our editor Kim F. Miller did a great job and we appreciate all of your comments on the stories we bring you every month.

Since I'm still unable to start another horse, I decided that I would put in a photo of a rescue horse that needs to be adopted on my publisher's page. We have hundreds of rescues that are trying to save our horses and rehome them. This nice horse was saved from slaughter and needs someone to take him home. I encourage everyone to support your favorite rescue and help them keep our horses safe and happy. If you want to promote a horse on my page please let me know.

This month is our spring dressage issue. We have several excellent stories for you. Next month is our barns and Spanish breeds issue and June is our summer hunter/jumper issue. Be sure to let us know if you have a story for any of our future issues.

Happy Riding!
