California Riding Magazine • July, 2011

Publisher's Notes

General Manager Mimie Nordenstrom,
Creative Director and Editorial Coordinator Alicia Anthony,
and I had a beach trail outing at Happy Trails in Imperial Beach.

We reviewed the trail riding outfit for our attendees
that came in from all around the globe to the American Horse
Publications conference held last month at Mission Bay.

Photographer and friend Daniel Lew took this photo of
Editor Kim F. Miller (center), Alicia (right), and me,
newly inducted president of American Horse Publications,
at the beautiful Catamaran Resort Hotel.

The conference held classes for members of all types
of equine media to learn how to be better at what we do –
keeping our readers up to date and informed in our respective media's mission. If you'd like more information on American Horse Publications, be sure to e-mail or call me.

This month our cover sponsor is Christa Petrillo. She is a very talented young trainer and has continued with her success in the horse world. Read about Christa and her business on page 20.

You can find extra photos from our beach ride with Happy Trails, the Friesian Focus open house and Dove Hollow's new trainer Jaime Amian by searching for them on www.ridingmagazine.com.

Last month we attended the Western States Horse Expo. We passed out magazines and copies of the California Horseman's Directory. Plus we signed up new readers to our weekly eNewsletter and drew Emma Roberts as our winner of the $300 shopping spree. The Western States Horse Expo post event report is in our eNewsletter archives on our website. Be sure to sign up for our weekly eNews to get all of our breaking news reports.

Hot News: This month's featured young rider, show jumper Ricky Neal, accomplished a terrific feat just as we went to press. He finished off the four-show Young Riders European tour by winning the CSIOY Grand Prix in Hagen Germany on June 19. Aboard his main mount, Transmission, and going against 48 top contenders, Ricky was more than a second faster than the runner-up in the eight-horse jump-off. His finish helped the US team to third place in that leg of the tour. Read all about Ricky on page 16.

Happy Riding!
