Publisher's Notes

April 22 was Steve's and my 22nd wedding anniversary which we celebrated by vacationing in Maui. We rented our friend Gary Nelson's three-bedroom condo in Kahana and took Steve's mom, dad, and our good friend Nancy Reed. Of course I had to do a horse back ride and give you the review on Mendes Ranch's trail rides. We did their morning ride with a barbecue lunch afterwards. We didn't opt for the helicopter ride / trail ride comb. But might try that the next time when we come back. They split up the morning ride. Beginners just walk. The intermediate and up group gets to gallop up two of the hills on the two-hour ride. The ranch is on the north side of Maui near the main airport. We had good horses that knew where the spot to gallop up the hills was and where the stopping spot was. Nancy's horse was the youngest and we let her lead us up the second gallop as her horse loved to run. The views were amazing and the barbecue was delicious. Two thumbs up for the Mendes Ranch! For more info on their rides check out their website: To see more photos of our Maui trip click here.

I will also be giving a review of trail riding with Sweetwater Horses in Bonita, and Happy Trails beach ride in Imperial Beach for members of American Horse Publications that will be coming to San Diego for their annual conference. The two-day conference is educational training for members of the equestrian media to help us improve our publications and media services.

This month we will be at Western States Horse Expo in Sacramento. Be sure to stop by and sign up for our free weekly eNewsletter for a chance to win a $300 shopping spree.

We thank our cover sponsor Circle Oak Equine. Their facility looks amazing and is a huge help to all the horses that take advantage of their extensive services. This month we are featuring hunter/jumper and real estate. Thank you to all of our advertisers that joined us for this issue.

Next month we feature trainers and natural horsemanship. August is our summer dressage issue. Be sure to let us know if you have a story for any of our upcoming issues. We also have a few covers left for 2011, if you'd like to sponsor our cover story.

In our April issue, we inadvertently omitted the names of the owners of three stallions mentioned in an article on The Ranch At Menifee. Diane and Patrick Truxillo own VPRH Pegasus vom Niehaus-hof, Andrea Duncan owns Rafael and The Ranch at Menifee owns Gold Pack.

I'm having fun working with my young horse Riding Magazine's Latest Edition - aka "Eddie." Annie Worthman is doing great in the Baby Green Hunters. I just started doing small jumps and am pretty excited that Eddie is getting pretty good lead changes. I've been busy this year with announcing or working in the horse show office for Signature, Sweetwater, ECHO and Inland Empire's series. I'm enjoying the extra work and really having a great time at the horse show. I'm planning on showing Eddie next year in the 2'6" Low Adult Division. He just turned 4 in April and I plan to give him an easy schedule his first year in the show ring.

Happy Riding!
