Publisher's Notes

It's time for our annual Cute Foal contest.
We will be hosting the contest on our Facebook page.
Last year's contest was very fun with a lot of great photos sent in for the competition. Go to our Facebook page to get all the details.

This is our Spanish breeds and barns issue. We thank our cover sponsor Dorado Andaluz for their participation this year. We have several good stories on the wonderful Spanish horses and also on barn companies here in California. We will be featuring hunter/jumper, real estate, and Western States Horse Expo in the June issue. You can check out our editorial calendar at www.ridingmagazine.com.

Several industry leaders are meeting May 10 in Sacramento to discuss the Minimum Standards of Horse Care in the State Of California booklet, published by U.C. Davis in November of last year. "While addressing some important concerns of horse owners, stable owners and equine professionals, the booklet additionally purports to establish minimum required standards, rather than recommended standards that may not be in keeping with day-to-day business," notes Sandy Arledge. The San Diego trainer, breeder and active industry leader will attend the meeting and report for us in our June issue. To attend, or for more information, contact the PCQHA office at 530-823-5991. You may access the booklet at www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/ceh/docs/special/pubs-HorseCareStandards-bkm-sec.pdf.

My young horse, Riding Magazine's Latest Edition, is doing well in the Baby Green Hunter ring. He's figuring out what horse shows are all about and doing very well his first few shows. I'm also expanding my horse show duties as I'm going to be working at the Signature and Inland Empire shows either at the gate or in the office. Be sure to stop by and say hi and let me know story ideas you have for any of our upcoming issues.

Happy Riding!
