Shea Center
Annual fall fundraiser
another super success.

Over 1,300 guests attended the 31st J.F. Shea Therapeutic Riding Center BBQ and Country Faire on Sat., Sept. 26 at the organization’s equestrian facilities in San Juan Capistrano. Gross proceeds for the annual fundraising event are estimated at over $300,000. The evening featured silent and live auctions, carnival games for kids and adults, Shea rider demonstrations and live country western entertainment and dancing.

The event highlight was the Klein Match challenge which exceeded its $250,000 goal.  Longtime Shea Center supporters Jenny and Bill Klein agreed to match all new donations made within a 25-day period ending Sept. 30. These funds will be specifically used to support client services, financial aid for riders in need and the organization’s therapeutic riding programs.

More news from Shea is the recent appointment of three new board of directors members: Julie Frost, Kathleen McClemmy and Louis Tomaselli. Frost began as a side walker volunteer and most recently served as a member of the fall gala committee. She also began a program at her company, DATAllegro, that encourages employees to volunteer at Shea during work hours. McKlemmy is the parent of a Shea rider and is an active volunteer at Shea and many other community organizations. Tomaselli is a Shea supporter and member of El Viaje de Portola, an equestrian group that hosts an annual trek that follows explorer Gaspar de Portola’s historic trail through Orange County.
