Carol J. Goodstein
Portola Valley horsewoman honored for
her 25 years of work through
Spring Down Equestrian Center.

The Woodside-area Horse Owners Association is delighted to announce its choice for the 2009 WHOA! Hall of Fame: long-time resident and great horsewoman Carol Goodstein of Portola Valley.

This year, Carol and her husband Stan Goodstein celebrate the 25th year of their Spring Down Equestrian Center. Throughout that time, the Center has provided quality riding lessons to kids and adults including camps, clinics and four horse shows on the property a year. The couple’s hope was to create a riding school to promote an understanding of horses and teach horsemanship from the ground up in a safe environment, having fun along the way. They have accomplished that and quite a lot more. The Goodsteins have been huge supporters of horses their entire lives, allocating proceeds from lessons and camps to the Folger Stable Project, the National Center for Equine Facilitated Therapy and other equine and animal groups as well as ensuring that six acres of their property will be sold back to Portola Valley and kept as open space for future generations to enjoy.

It is with the community’s heartfelt thanks for her continuous and vigorous support of our equine partners, as well as her contributions to our equestrian community at large, that WHOA! is honored to welcome Carol Goodstein as its 2009 recipient of the Hall of Fame award. A reception will be held in her honor on Oct. 15 in Woodside and she will also receive special recognition during WHOA’s Day Of The Horse on Oct. 10.
