Help is the greatest gift of all!

The Gift of Help

After November’s wildfires, California has a sickening amount of people and horses in need of help as they attempt to rebuild their lives. Our equestrian community is famously generous in these all-too common situations, but often donations dwindle even though the needs continue for months, years and sometimes lifetimes.

May we all find ways to contribute what we can to causes that sustain these hard-hit members of our equestrian family. Our fire feature in this issue  includes information on organizations that are attempting to help those affected, and likely these are only the tip of the iceberg of what’s out there.

The Gift of Horses

A life with horses is among the greatest gifts. Get a friend or family member started off right with riding lessons at a top riding school that emphasizes safety, horsemanship and having fun. Every year in our June issue, California Riding Magazine spotlights such programs, so here’s a few suggestions from this year’s edition.

California Riding Magazine

Don’t miss an issue of great horse and people stories, competition news, inspirational and how-to articles -- all about or related to people and horses in the great Golden State -- and a bit beyond.

Tea Time

Each tea features an animal design that tells the story behind that particular blend – “We’re partial to the horse featured on our Russian Earl Gray!” say Whidbey Tea’s mother-daughter founders, who happen to be horse crazy, too. The company is also a big supporter of the Adequan® West Coast Dressage Festival.

Molly Chiesel’s The Wooden Horse Studio

Artist Molly Chiesel grew up in a small town in Northern California, riding horses every moment she could. As her love for horses developed, so did her love of art. Her passion for horses and their undeniable beauty combined with her love of using repurposed materials quickly became the focus of her next piece: a pallet painting, inspired by a thoroughbred that she spent those countless hours with as a child.

Repurposed wooden pallets make for a unique canvas for Molly’s portraits, painted in acrylic then given a matte varnish. “I really enjoy painting custom pieces that reflect my clients’ experiences with their own horses.”

Foot Huggies Equestrian Tall Boot Socks

These super thin socks were designed with high performance riders in mind, with extensive testing that led to comfort, durability and breathability. One example is double padding in six places, including inside the calf where stirrup leather rubs happen and along the Achilles tendon for friction relief. Invisible seams are another asset, preventing bulky corners in the boot toe box, which often leads to calluses and corns.
