Behind the scenes at Tucalota Creek Ranch

photos by Kristin Lee Photography

As we’ve chronicled faithfully, eventer Tamie Smith has been on an upward trajectory for some time and had a particularly fantastic 2015. The Chronicle Of The Horse’s Eventer of the Year and Overall Horseman of the Year credits moving to Tucalota Creek Ranch as a big part of her success. So we thought it would be fun to give you a behind-the-scenes look at this beautiful 42-acre property in Temecula.

Tamie moved her Next Level Eventing program to Tucalota Creek in 2012. It is owned by Kay and Alan Needles, who are longtime reining and working cow horse owners, riders and enthusiasts. There wasn’t much going on there when Tamie moved in, and she and her team invested considerable sweat equity into sprucing it up and making it suitable for eventing training. Along the way, the Needles have signed onto Team Tamie.

The Ranch has been the site of two USET training sessions with David O’Connor and other events that Tamie foresees as part of making it a “Mecca for eventing” and helping the West Coast continue to assert itself in the sport.

Thanks to photographer Kristin Lee for these beautiful images.
