altFrankie Cameron

The right tool is important to any task. Writers need the right pen; carpenters, the right hammer; cooks, the right crockery. It was no different for rider and business owner Frankie Thieriot Stutes when she became a mom a few years ago. Existing diaper bags just weren’t letting her do this most important job of motherhood the way she wanted to and in a way that enabled her to juggle it with the rest of her life. So, she designed her own diaper bags and launched the Frankie Cameron line. Good looks and a washable liner are the distinguishing traits of all bags bearing the brand, which now includes many sizes and styles, plus coin purses, key chains and other accessories in beautiful leathers and hides.

Bentley Bars

Bentley Bars began as a homemade holiday gift for barn friends. The scented saddle soaps are glycerin and castile based, using an “old world groom’s recipe” and some special ingredients, says their Northern California creator Maria Haas Shahi. The first year’s gift giving in 2014 planted the seed for this small business named after Maria’s horse.  Florals, sweets, herbs, fruits and food are among the scent inspirations.

Offerings include Rope Soap Luxe, an everyday cleaning soap on a rope with light conditioning properties and high shine; a Pot De Crème intense conditioning formula that’s great for reviving old leather, softening new leather or an intense moisture treatment; and a liquid crème.

Red, gold and green netted gift bags make for super cute holiday wrapping.

Unbelts

Today’s technical fabrics give show coats a stretchy snug fit, making what you wear underneath them all the more visible. Or, in the case of an Unbelt, not very visible at all. Marketed as mainstream apparel, these flexible, adjustable stretch band belts have an all-metal buckle that is just one-eighth-of-an-inch thick. So, minimal bulk anywhere around the waistline for a sleek look with or without your coat.

Unbelts come in many colors and are washable, so they don’t have to be removed from your breeches or jeans before doing laundry. Nice!

Support Brooke USA

If your shopping list includes the many of us in the horse world who have everything we could ever dream of and more, consider making a worthwhile donation in their honor. Brooke USA is a terrific cause. It’s mission is to “Significantly improve the welfare of working horses, donkeys, mules and the people they serve throughout Asian, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.”

A $25 donation could provide a blanket to working equids spending their off-hours in cold climates with little body fat or condition to keep themselves warm. Education is a big part of Brooke USA’s mission. The same small amount could help Brooke teach owners the importance of providing adequate shelter for their animals in extreme cold and heat. At the top end of the spectrum, a $5,000 donation could provide emergency vet care and owner training at India’s Equine Fairs and other areas.

There are opportunities for gifted donations at every price point in between and there’s a horse, mule, donkey or person who will truly need and appreciate it.

Go WEG Wild

Whether you braved Hurricane Florence and went to the FEI World Equestrian Games or not, most agree it was something to celebrate. Getting the venue together on short notice – less than two years – and handling the approach and soggy aftermath of the Category 4 storm was a miracle unto itself, but none of that outshone the level of competition that took place in eventing, dressage and reining. (We went to press before Week 2 got underway with show jumping, para-dressage, driving and vaulting and endurance was, sadly, cancelled.)

A full line of WEG apparel, novelties, gifts, etc. offers great ideas for equestrian fans of all ages, disciplines and interests.
