Iberian Horse Show Debuts this Month in Las Vegas

andalusian world cupInsiders anticipate new competition may be the biggest of its kind in the country. The inaugural Feria del Caballo Español National Show and Andalusian World Cup, widely predicted to be the largest Iberian Horse Show of its kind in the country, kicks off Sept. 25 in Las Vegas at the South Point Arena and Equestrian Center.

The show, to be held Sept. 25-27, combines multiple Iberian horse show divisions at one venue, and is expected to be the largest Iberian horse show in the world outside of Spain and Portugal. According to the show's organizers, entries have exceeded initial targets and a wide variety of sponsors have joined in the opportunity to be a part of this exciting new event.

The Feria del Caballo Español National Show offers morphology and functionality classes for P.R.E. horses registered with ANCCE. The Andalusian World Cup sector will offer halter and performance classes for Andalusians, Lusitanos and partbreds, and is open to all horses with papers from any recognized Iberian Horse registry. The Working Equitation competition is open to any breed of horse.

Many prominent Iberian horse devotees say this combined horse show concept may become the wave of the future for Iberian horses.
"Although the number of Iberian horses in the United States has grown tremendously in the past 10 years, the breeds are still somewhat rare here. It makes a lot of sense to bring all the breeds, regardless of registry, together for one show," says Andalusian World co-founder Kevin Kidder. "That way breeders and exhibitors alike are truly competing among the best of the best, not the just the best of a certain registry or region. I couldn't be more excited for this new show, and I know a lot of others who are as well!"

Amber Lentz, co-founder of Andalusian World and one of the show's key organizers, agrees that the show's concept seems to resonate with the various Iberian horse communities. "Response to the show has been phenomenal, we have horses traveling from as far as Mexico and the Eastern U.S. to attend," she says. "Entries have been well above target, and we couldn't be more pleased with the number and caliber of sponsors who have joined the event. "

All entries for the show close on Sept. 11.. Key sponsors to-date include: Dale Chavez, Cowboy Magic, Rancho Jimenez, USPRE, Tilley Andalusians, Platinum Performance, Xavier Farms, Haras Dos Cavaleiros, Andalusian World, Iberian Connection, Working Equitation International Association U.S.A., Hampton Green Farm, Rancho Andalucia, SF Andalusians, Provenance Dressage, Suspension Sporthorses, and Watchman P.R.E Horses.

Show classes are offering more than $25,000 in cash and awards. There are some great prizes from the sponsors, including a custom-designed Dale Chavez saddle, that will be awarded to the winner of the Supreme Championship Western Pleasure Class, and a classic Iberian saddle donated by Iberian Connection for the top scoring Working Equitation rider. And, contrary to the popular line 'What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas' ... winners get to take home all their cash awards and fabulous prizes!
