Big Horse Feed
Temecula goes maze crazy as Big Horse Feed kicks off their 9th Annual Fall Festival and Corn Maze.

If you’re a horseman and you’ve spent much time in Riverside County’s Temecula, chances are you have been to Big Horse Feed, or at the very least, driven by their huge sign just off of Highway 79 South asking drivers if they “got feed?” This year the staff at Big Horse Feed and the entire Corona family invites clients old and new, Temecula locals and visitors, and friends and family both young and old to join them for their Annual Fall Festival and Corn Maze.

The event opens on Oct. 6, the first weekend of October. Every year the corn maze has a different theme, and while the themes are always a tribute to the United States’ military heroes and always “a-mazing,” this year’s theme holds a special place in their hearts as it is modeled after an image of Dan Jackson, a retired First Sergeant.
“Dan passed away unexpectedly this year,” explains Rose Corona, who is once again at the reins of the fall festival, in addition to her regular duties running Big Horse Feed. “Not only was he a retired Marine with five purple hearts, he was also a really generous person. He came to us in 1993, and having grown up on a farm in Utah, he knew how to drive. For over 10 years he has been driving our Belgiums at the fall festival and has never asked for a dime.”
It will take guests a little over an hour and fifteen minutes to navigate the 10 acre maze…that’s if they don’t become hopelessly lost. Rose says if you do find yourself wandering aimlessly though the maze, don’t panic, there are “Corn Cops” throughout the maze to assist lost travelers and point them in the right direction.
In addition to the maze, there are also pony rides, face painting, photos, jolly jumps, a mini corn maze, hay rides and pumpkin hunts. Big Horse Feed’s annual pumpkin patch is open to the public weekday afternoons from Oct. 6-31, but the corm maze and fall festival are only offered on the weekends. Each weekend will also feature a different theme.
The first weekend’s theme is “Honor Our Heroes” and all military personnel and family members will receive entry at half price admission with valid military ID. The second weekend, Oct. 13-14 is “Pumpkin Pandemonium,” and will feature pumpkin pie eating contests, pumpkin bowling, seed spitting contests, a pumpkin patch and everything pumpkin! The third weekend, Oct. 20-21, is the always popular “Old Fashion Farm Days at the Corn Maze,” with many hands-on demonstrations and exhibits including blacksmithing and sheep sheering. Finally, Oct. 27-28, is an “All American Wild West Weekend,” where the entire family can meet real cowboys and cowgirls and learn what it takes to be a real cowboy.
All the members of the Corona family are dedicated to educating the public about the important role agriculture plays in our society. And once again, Big Horse Feed is offering “Classrooms in the Corn,” where scout troops and school children can learn about agriculture and farm animals.
“Having done educational school programs for over 15 years, it’s becoming more apparent how important these programs are because more and more we realize that children do not understand where food comes from,” explains Rose.
