Laura Langhorst was the Long Stirrup Champion for the season with Toucha Gold. It was a good season for the pair, as Laura and Toucha Gold dominated the hunter division winning tri-colors in the Amateur Hunter, English Pleasure and Future Hunter divisions. Shona Edwards and Major Player were the Long Stirrup Reserve Champions.

DG Bar’s Willy Arts Shines
at USEF National Dressage Championships
It was a long journey from California to Kentucky for Willy Arts and Waterloo SE, owned by Siegi Belz-Fry and DG Bar Ranch, but you won’t hear Willy, or anyone else for that matter, complaining about the trip.
The pair kicked off the second day of competition at the 2007 Markel/United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) National Young Horse Dressage Championship at the Kentucky Horse Park, Sept. 14-16, by winning the four year old optional warm-up class with a score of 8.14. The pair continued to dominate throughout the competition, besting 19 other horses, to claim the National Champion title in the four year old division with a score of 8.62.
“We had a great experience and I think it’s a super program in order to select young horses at an early age especially in this big country. To start them and promote them and also follow the training … you are going to see some really good FEI horses coming up,” said Willy.
Waterloo wasn’t the only California horse to make a worthwhile expedition to Kentucky; Hit Parade SFS, owned by Savior Faire Stables in San Marcos, and ridden by Sandra Burns Gardner, was the highest scoring 5 year old stallion of the competition (see story on page 70). Savior Faire Stables sent an entire team with the pair including their trainer, Olympian Guenter Seidel and veterinarian Anne McCabe. Hit Parade and Sandra ended the competition by placing fourth overall in the five-year-old division.
Californian Scored Big at Capital Challenge
Olivia Kohan of Los Angles, rode her way to top of the pack in the World Champion Hunter Rider Pony Challenge at the Capital Challenge Horse Show in Upper Marlboro, MD. Olivia piloted her large pony, Simply Henry, to a win over 30 other ponies, claiming the champion title with a score of 87.41.
“This is our first big win,” said Kohan’s trainer Kate Considine of Willow Brook Stables, Inc. Kohan was paired up with Henry, a German Warmblood, earlier this year but was unable to ride for over five months due to a broke ankle. This was the pair’s third show back.
“We only did two (WCHR shows) because she broke her foot, so that’s why she had to qualify here. All she’s said for the last two weeks before coming to the show was ‘Can I do the Sunday class? Can I do the Sunday class?’ I said, get in the top four over fences and you can do it.”
A third place finish overall enabled Kohan to enter the challenge class. The pair posted scores of 88, 88, 86.35 and 83 for a winning average of 87.41. When asked about her 11-year-old gelding, Kohan said, “He’s really smart so he can tell what distance you’re asking for, and he can sometimes find the distance on his own. He’s just really good and he always tries.”
Glynnsong Farms Shines at Arabian Sport Horse Nationals
Glynnsong Farms of Castroville came home from the Arabian Sport Horse Nationals at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, VA, with five National Championships, five Reserve National Championships and 17 Top Ten placings.
OKW Entrigue, or “Ricky” to his fans, won both the Prix St. Georges classes and the Intermediaire I, ridden by trainer Patience Prine-Carr. His score of 69 at the PSG was the highest FEI score of the show, and his demonstration freestyle on Saturday night delighted the crowd of Arabian and sport horse fans alike.
Patience said she won’t soon forget the results of the 57-horse strong First Level Dressage Championship. Patience rode Artesan VS, owned to Susan McArthur, to the blue, C Khree, owned by Felicia Sauers, to second and Capt Han Solo, owned by Rhea Hastey, to third place. At Second Level, she rode Artesan VS to champion and C Khree to reserve champion.
