Equestrians in Southern California are a hardy bunch. They are used to seeing their way through natural disasters—fires, earthquakes and floods—and sometimes, man-made disasters. So when a small flood forced BITS Equestrian Outlet and its owner, Teresa Lamb, out of their longtime home on Stevens Avenue in Solana Beach, Teresa was not discouraged. Instead she quickly found BITS a new home at Rancho El Camino in Del Mar.
Rancho El Camino horse ranch is located at 13998 Old El Camino Real, just two miles east of the Del Mar Fairgrounds and just down the street from Del Mar Horsepark and the Del Mar Polo Club. Being east of the fairground and Interstate-5, customers are no longer up against the fairground’s traffic, which hampered BITS’ old location on Stevens Ave. BITS is located on a horse ranch and surrounded by other horse facilities and show barns including Newmarket and Ridgemar both on Old El Camino Real.
“I feel so very blessed that I am still in business after nine years,” says Teresa. “I just want to thank everyone for their continued support; and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the ranch enjoying a cup of coffee or an ice tea out on the porch of my little red barn.”
Lemonade isn’t the only thing Teresa will be offering on the porch of BITS’ new location this summer. BITS is also offering arts and crafts activities for the summer camps at Rancho El Camino out on the porch. And when the equestrian enthusiasts and summer campers get a little hungry or thirsty they can visit BITS’ complete snack bar. It is fully loaded with cold drinks, candy, fresh fruit, ice cream, hot dogs and a huge selection of many other tasty treats and microwavable foods. There is even a refrigerator loaded with fresh carrots for the horses.
Teresa is taking in consignment items—cleaned and gently used at any time. Currently there is a large selection of english tack and apparel, appropriate for both “A” rated and local shows. BITS is looking to expand their western selection this year. Anyone looking to consign their western tack is welcome.
BITS is now accepting special orders for saddles, tack trunks, trunk covers and more. Upon request, BITS can now special order HDR, Pessoa and Wintec saddles. “Because of our limited space we are unable to stock every saddle for everyone’s needs,” explains Teresa.
GPA Helmets, Ariat boots and horse care products are just a few of the new additions added to BITS selection. Teresa is determined not to be undersold, and BITS’ new policy is they will beat anyone’s currently published advertised price for saddles.
Teresa adds, “Almost 17 years ago I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and have been unable to ride horses. But being here at the ranch in my ‘little red barn’ is the next best thing to riding for me. This is exactly where I have always
wanted to be!”
