James Ford Bay Area Featherlite
Dealership helps horse owners buy
truck and trailer together.

James Ford Bay Area Featherlite has been selling Ford trucks to horse enthusiasts for 24 years on Highway 1 in Northern California’s Half Moon Bay. Last year they added Featherlite horse trailers to their inventory and it’s a perfect match. “We’ve had people who settle on a larger trailer than they originally planned on buying and needing a bigger truck to pull it,” says Michael Loge, general sales manager for Featherlite trailers. “We can set them up with just what they need.”
James Ford Bay Area Featherlite stocks a lot of trailers, ranging from two-horse trailers up to a six-horse trailer and their inventory includes a good variety. Michael says it takes about four to six weeks on a special order. And buying a living quarter type trailer is almost like buying a house. People want to see all the color options, and like to look at several different configurations before they make a decision. There’s a broad price range; anywhere from $7,500 on up to $75,000.
Featherlite has the industry’s widest selection of standard and custom aluminum and steel goosenecks, bumper pulls and living quarters horse trailers. All Featherlite horse trailers with aluminum side panels now come with Featherlite’s new sleek, ‘wave’ sides. Modeled after the stylish panels of the prestigious Medalist Series, these new wave panels add even more to the distinctive look and feel of the Featherlite.
For trailers with customized living quarters, Featherlite has partnered with Sierra Custom Interiors. The new Featherlite/Sierra Interiors Collection offers customers a wider array of amenity-rich standard living quarter packages that deliver craftsmanship and a wide range of designer decors.
Featherlite bumper pull trailers come in both straight and slant. Models are also available with dressing rooms. Featherlite goosenecks are known for their stability, versatility, storage capacity and convenience. Both the bumper pull and gooseneck feature “Light-Flo” feed doors that provide more light and air flow in the horse area for easier loading and a calmer, healthier environment. Both styles are available in steel or aluminum.
The Featherlite “Big Horse” Series is specially tailored for Warmbloods, Thoroughbreds and larger breed horses or for those who desire additional room for their larger horses. The Big Horse trailers are bigger, wider, taller and more comfortable.
The good news for people who might be intimidated about pulling a trailer is that “the big trucks these days tow like Cadillacs,” says Michael. “If the customer has the proper truck with the trailer, the rig handles well and once they start driving it they’re very comfortable.”
