It’s In The Bag!
Chaffhaye offers premium
bagged forage

When Steve Rader’s wife first told him about Chaffhaye’s premium bagged forage, he thought it sounded a bit interesting. Further investigation showed him that it would make a great alternative to the hay he’d been feeding his own horses and goats.
It wasn’t long before Steve recognized the potential Chaffhaye represented: Top quality feed that combines consistent nutritional content with high digestibility and palatability; offers easy transportation and storage; avoids waste, dust and mold; and is certified weed free. All of that, and it is still cost effective.
As they say in someone else’s commercial, “I liked it so much, I bought the company!” Today, Steve is developing a Chaffhaye dealer network throughout the country, and expanding the Chaffhaye product line beyond its original alfalfa product to include a grass hay version, and a grass/alfalfa blend.

Bagging Great Nutrition
Hay is harvested at its peak to maximize nutrients, palatability and digestibility. Next, it’s chopped into “chaff” for optimum usability, sprayed with a light mist of molasses to begin nature’s fermentation process, and sealed in a large air-tight bag to lock in freshness. All of this happens within hours of harvest.
Inside the Chaffhaye bag, nature’s fermentation process breaks down the forage to produce live yeast and beneficial bacteria for improved digestion. After the oxygen in the air-tight bag has been used up, the fermentation ceases and the resulting Chaffhaye remains fresh and nutritious for two years.
Thanks to its sturdy air-tight bag, Chaffhaye’s freshness is locked in, and dust, moisture, mold, rodents and other undesirable elements are locked out. The 50-pound bags are easy to haul, easy to store and easy to feed.
Open the bag, and the aroma of fermented yeast wafts out, attracting animals and beer-drinkers alike. Even picky eaters of the equine variety have become fans of Chaffhaye, as have their owners.

Highly Recommended
Chaffhaye has been recommended by animal nutritionists and veterinarians for many reasons: as a superior source of roughage, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals; to enhance appetite or increase feed intake for maximum growth and performance; establish healthy microflora in the gut of weaning animals; and improve immune defense in stressed animals after travel, antibiotics, wormers and vaccinations. Also, to help eliminate digestive disorders; minimize respiratory problems for animals sensitive to dust or mold; and provide an easily masticated and digested forage for senior animals.
Terri Sturn, Executive Director of RISE (Riding Instruction for Special Equestrians, a non-profit member of the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association) in Tehachapi, uses Chaffhaye, and highly recommends it for some very practical reasons.
“I can haul it, stack it, feed it, and our kids can easily handle it as well,” she says. “Our horses love it, and thrive on it. We have some older horses that have been donated to our program, and they are great with the kids … but sometimes it’s a challenge to keep the weight on them. Not with Chaffhaye! They love to eat it, and they do really well on it.”

British Roots, American Future
Premium bagged forage isn’t as new a concept as it might seem. The British have used this process since the 1920s, when their horses sent overseas to far-flung countries experienced problems due to unfamiliar, and often substandard, forage. To solve the problem, the British invented this process and used it successfully for decades. Today, Chaffhaye, Inc. uses this technology at its manufacturing plant in West Texas.
Future plans call for expanding the product line, increasing production capacity, and adding more dealers, so that more horses and their owners can benefit from Chaffhaye’s premium bagged forage.
