The Humane Society of the United States Lauds BLM Plan to
Reform Failing Wild Horse Management Program

Group urges Congressional leaders to support more humane and fiscally responsible plan.

The Humane Society of the United States expressed cautious optimism in reaction to a comprehensive plan from Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Bureau of Land Management Director Bob Abbey designed to transform the Bureau of Land Management’s wild horse and burro program from one that is often inefficient, costly and inhumane to one which is technologically advanced, fiscally sound and more humane.

Whispering Winds Equine Rescue Needs Your Help!

We've set a goal. If we can get six people to take two horses each, this would help us tremendously. Six take two, or five take three each. These girls are not only a piece of history but have been used in scientific studies regarding the fertility use in wild horses. They just need a place to live out their lives. If you can help, or know anyone that can, please let us know as soon as possible. Read the full details here.

In addition, here are some of the youngsters from this group that are looking for homes. All are handled and wonderful babies.

California’s Best Value for Horse Lovers

At Equine Affaire you can learn from the world’s best trainers and immerse yourself in everything equine for less than a trip to the movie theater.

It’s not often that World and National Champion competitors from disciplines as diverse as cutting, dressage, reining, jumping, barrel racing, and driving as well as renowned trainers from other walks of horselife gather in one location to share their secrets. Even less often comes the chance to soak up all that learning for about what you’d spend on a movie ticket and a bucket of popcorn.

Just $16 gets you an all-access daily ticket to the 2010 edition of our country’s most successful and most enduring all-breed, all-discipline equine expo, Equine Affaire, which returns to Fairplex in Pomona, CA, Thursday–Sunday, February 4–7. Admission for kids age 7–12 is just $10, and tots aged 6 and under get in free.

Halliday Takes Another Win for 2009

Liz Halliday took her third win of the 2009 eventing season and registered four other top-ten finishes last week during a busy few days of competition.

The California-born dual sportswoman contested the South of England and Berkshire College Horse Trials with five different horses from her new training complex in East Sussex, UK.

Her victory came in the Pre-Novice category at Berkshire College with a horse she had never competed before, Wonder II. A score of 31 placed Liz just outside the top three after Dressage but double-clear rounds in the Show Jumping and Cross Country tests secured victory in the 39-strong field.

Halliday also rode Vincenzo for the first time in the same event in the Open Pre-Novice category and finished fourth. A stunning score of 23.5 in the Dressage was good enough for second, although a single rail down in the Show Jumping before a clear Cross Country left Liz just outside the top three.

Equitation Riders Bring it on at Woodside Fall Finale

Drazan follows in sister’s footsteps & first timers dominate CPHA Regional Medal Finals.

The Woodside Fall Finale (Sept. 24-27) concluded a successful seventh hunter/jumper show season at the Horse Park at Woodside. Equitation riders were the main theme with the Woodside Junior and Amateur Equitation Championships, and the CPHA Horsemanship and Child/Adult Regional Medal Finals.

The winner of the Woodside Junior Equitation Championship, Mackenzie Drazan, earned a tack trunk for her effort, matching the one her younger sister Shelby won at the Woodside Labor Day Classic in the Northern California Pony Hunter Final. Mackenzie also won the 12 to 14 Equitation championship at the Woodside Fall Finale. Mackenzie’s mother Stacy said, “Mackenzie had her first pony ride on her first birthday and wouldn’t get off! She started riding in the Menlo Circus Club school horse program when she was six.” Mackenzie has been riding with trainer Jenny Davis for the past two-and-a-half years.
