Fox-Pitt Remains Flawless to Take Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event

by Joanie Morris

William Fox-Pitt put in a foot-perfect show jumping round to complete a weekend during which Cool Mountain exceed expectation and made his first CCI4* a winning one at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event presented by Bridgestone.

Riding for Great Britain, Fox-Pitt was the man to catch all weekend and finished on his dressage score of 42.8. But Rolex Kentucky had always eluded him so his flawless round in the Johnson Stadium at the Kentucky Horse Park made the win that much sweeter as he added a Rolex watch to his accolades as one of the most decorated eventing riders in history.

"I know my chap tries to jump the jumps," said Fox-Pitt. "He tried his heart out."

New Awards Will Spotlight Successful Second Career Potential of Thoroughbred Horses

After Thoroughbreds have completed their race careers, they are often ideal candidates for another vocation. To call attention to these horses' second career possibilities, nationally-recognized Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital has created a series of annual awards, the first of which will be presented to the top Thoroughbred sport horses of 2009.

Divisional awards, named for legendary Thoroughbred sport horses, will be given to those Thoroughbreds who were the top achievers in 2009 U.S. Equestrian Federation (USEF) competitions in the following disciplines: Hunter (Stocking Stuffer Award), Jumper (Touch of Class Award), Dressage (Keen Award) and Eventing (Antigua Award). The USEF is assisting in the award selection process by tabulating the points earned and verifying that the winners are Thoroughbreds. The divisional honors will be awarded at the USEF's annual Silver Stirrup Awards Banquet in January 2011.

Roberts spends about 300 days per year touring worldwide to live audiences interested in his renowned concepts of gentle horse training. He has toured continually since the release of his first book The Man Who Listens to Horses, a New York Times bestseller in 1996.

Roberts has revolutionized the way many horses are trained today worldwide. His Flag Is Up Farms in Solvang, California, is a highlight in the newly published book, Stables, by Kathryn Masson from Rizzoli Press for which a book signing will be held in Santa Barbara on June 11. Flag Is Up Farms is world renowned for developing and maintaining the Join-Up International teaching of force-free horse training.

On May 24-26, Roberts will teach a three day clinic, RIDING WITH RESPECT: striving for performance from your horse through non-violent training. This is the first ridden clinic given by Roberts at Flag Is Up Farms in over 10 years. Riders from all levels will learn Monty’s perspective of understanding the horse’s generous nature. All disciplines and types of horses are attending.
