Taxman Takes Hunter Championship at LAEC Winter Show - Riders Fly under Sunny Skies

Winter weather was nowhere in sight at the LAEC Winter Show last weekend, and the heavy rains of earlier this year were forgotten as riders enjoyed 80-degree temperatures.

Trainer Snowden Clarke and his crew were one such group who enjoyed the sunny skies at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. They also enjoyed some success, with Clarke riding Taxman (Chloe Cassens, owner) to a reserve championship in the 2'9" Hunters and the championship in 3'0" Hunters. Chloe had some good rides on her horse as well, earning ribbons in several of the Low Children’s Hunters and Children’s Hunters classes. She is just moving up to the 3’ classes and won one of her classes at Thermal last week.

Final World Cup Jumping Qualifier • April 2 in San Juan Capistrano

Show Jumpers Rich Fellers and Flexible have their World Cup Finals berth locked up and Keri Potter and Joie Gatlin look great to make the April 14-18 Finals in Geneva, Switzerland. But their second and third rankings could change if there’s a really big upset during this last of the North American West League’s 12 qualifiers. If Richard Spooner does extremely well in the East Coast league’s final class on March 27 in Florida, Potter and Gatlin might need another great finish to stay in it. And Ashlee Bond and Grand Prix newcomer Suzanne Saperstein could slip in if they do well and Potter and Gatlin don’t. And that’s just the race among American West Coasters.

It’s likely that California-based foreign riders Harley Brown, Guy McFarlane and Helen McNaught will ride for late-game points on behalf of Australia, New Zealand and Great Britain.

Big as it is, the World Cup class will be just one of the Blenheim Spring Tournament’s attractions. Daily Easter egg hunts and the region’s second USHJA International Hunter Derby are also on the docket.
