Courtney King-Dye Remains in a Coma

Olympic dressage rider Courtney King-Dye has been in a coma since falling from one of her horses during a schooling session March 3 in Loxahatchee, FL. Her husband Jason Dye has regularly posted reports on since the incident, including the good news that she was able to get off the ventilator March 12 and is breathing on her own.

Richard Spooner Wins Two Days in a Row, Takes $30,000 WEF Challenge Cup Round 10 Victory on Ace at 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival

Richard Spooner (USA) aboard Ace, owned by S&B LLC Corporation, produced a blazing time to win the $30,000 WEF Challenge Cup Round Ten. Second place honors went to Lauren Hough (USA) on her horse Prezioso S, owned by Highlife Farms. Third place award went to Alexander Hufenstuhl (GER) on Lacapo 4, owned by Sabina Illbruck.

The tenth week of the FTI WEF is sponsored by Equine Couture/TuffRider and runs through Sunday, March 21, 2010. The 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival has 12 weeks of competition that conclude on April 4, 2010, and they will be awarding almost $6 million in prize money through the circuit.

Important Changes to the USEF Therapeutic Drug Rule Regarding NSAIDs Become Effective April 1, 2010

At this year’s USEF Annual Meeting held January 13-17, 2010, an important rule change was approved affecting the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in competition horses. Over the years, ongoing veterinary research has revealed that not only is there little or no benefit to administering more than one NSAID to a horse for most medical concerns, it can actually cause potentially harmful, even severe side effects.

California Riders Do Well in USEF Events

Dressage riders on the West Coast competed under the California sun this weekend at the Dressage Affaire CDI3* held at the Del Mar Horse Park. Steffen Peters continued to demonstrate his dominance in U.S. dressage, winning in all seven of his outings. With 2009 Horse of the Year, Ravel, Peters blew away the competition winning by nine percentage points in both the Grand Prix (77.660%) and Grand Prix Special (77.375%). Adrienne Lyle and Wizard put in two excellent performances to finish second in both classes. In the freestyle, Guenter Seidel and U II finished first with a 72.300%.
