Riding's May Issue, Featuring Classic Equine Equipment on the Cover, is in stores now!

Our best wishes go out to Kristin Heinecke, an active San Diego horsewoman who sustained a severe skull injury in a late February fall. Donations to aid her recovery and to help care for her horses, who will be a huge part of her recovery, can be made through Facebook at Kristin's Recovery. Any Wells Fargo branch is also accepting donations on her behalf. Also there is a fundraiser at Creek Hollow Ranch on May 26, in Ramona.

Meantime, remember that wearing an ASTM-SEI approved riding helmet can reduce the risk of head injury by a huge margin. Just do it!

This month we feature Barns and Spanish Breeds. We thank everyone who joined us for this fun issue with something for everyone. We hope you let us know how we are doing and send us your story ideas. Next month is our summer hunter/jumper and real estate issue. July is our trainers issue.

I'm having fun with our consignment horse Albert E. He's coming along great and he already was a good boy at the Del Sol Classic with Ronnette Leja. I'm staying busy with all of my fun horsey jobs, whether it's announcing at horse shows, teaching lessons, or keeping the California horse industry informed of our wide and varied disciplines and breeds. Thank you to all of our readers and advertisers for letting us share our horse community with all of you.

Happy Riding!

from AHP

Of the over two million horse owners in the United States, 73% of them participate in trail and pleasure riding. That's a staggering figure that makes one sit up and take notice. And that's exactly what the president of Western States Horse Expo Miki Nelsen did 15 years ago when she founded this event. "I knew how important trail riding was to horse owners, and how important it is to my own heart. I finished the famous Tevis Cup Ride in 1994, meeting the challenge of 100 miles over the Sierra Nevada Mountains," states Nelsen. "It changed my life — riding for close to 24 hours over that magnificent terrain is something almost unexplainable. Keep reading ...

A sold-out Rolex Stadium crowd witnessed Andrew Nicholson (NZL) win North America's only CCI4* event for the first time. With Quimbo, he held onto the overnight lead, only adding three time penalties to their dressage score, finishing with a score of 41.0. Deborah Sellar's 10-year-old Spanish Sport Horse gelding sailed over the fences in Richard Jeffery's stadium jumping course, expertly guided by HSBC World Rankings Leader Nicholson.
