Riding's April Issue, Featuring Jochen Schleese on the Cover, Ships Tomorrow!

With the good news about Steve finding a job after 16 months of looking, we went to visit my brother and his family in South Texas. We had a fun week of relaxation on the Gulf of Mexico including a nice fun beach ride on South Padre Island. We also enjoyed the King Ranch museum in Kingsville,TX. Steve went fishing with our nephews and we brought home a cooler of Black Drum, Trout and Red Snapper. Our trip home had us diverted to Oakland airport due to fog conditions and we had the big adventure of spending the night in the airport. We survived and the fish stayed frozen and we have been enjoying some delicious meals.

This month we bring you our spring dressage issue and thank our cover sponsor Schleese Saddlery. Jochen Schleese is a leader in the saddle industry and a wonderful supporter of our magazine. Also you'll get news and photos from the HITS Million dollar Grand Prix won by Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum, an inside look at Ravel's retirement ceremony at Del Mar this month, a profile on the Stanford Equestrian team and much more.

Please contact us and let us know your story ideas. May is our Barns, Trucks & Trailers and Spanish Breeds issue. June is our summer Hunter/Jumper issue. Also be sure to pick up your copy of 2013 California Horseman's Directory which is now at your favorite tack and feed store.

Happy Riding!

The ever-present risk is due to the equine industry's reliance on the timely movement of healthy horses for sales, breeding, racing, showing, work and recreation. In this environment an infectious disease outbreak can result in federal or state restrictions on horse movement to stop the spread of the disease. Keep reading ...

Therin Lies a TAILRx

'Educated horses' were the rage of the horse age a century ago.  Cunningly trained to cues as subtle as a magician's sleight of hand, horses like Colonel Fred, the 'horse with the human brain,” appeared to calculate math, spell, and play a tune on pendulum-like chimes.  The era too was fascinated by natural curiosities, destined to inspire a young man named Robert Ripley to create 'Believe It or Not!' cartoons, and prompting Barnum & Bailey Circus to campaign a 'hairless' horse.Keep reading ...
