As dressage riders prepare for implementation of the USEF's new helmet mandate, effective March 1, international star Debbie McDonald announced that a helmet probably saved her life Tuesday, Feb. 2, after she was thrown 30 feet from a too-frisky young horse. She said she'd been wearing a helmet since Courtney King Dye's coma-inducing fall last year and was super grateful for it after Tuesday's fall. The incident took place in the Los Angeles area's Thousand Oaks. Debbie was taken to a nearby hospital and reportedly treated for a concussion, whiplash and cuts on her face. Watch for a full report on the new helmet rules in California Riding Magazine's March issue.
