USEF Approves Request by Steffen Peters; Dressage Champion to be Considered for U.S. Team at 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games

The United States Equestrian Federation, Inc. (USEF) announced that Steffen Peters has requested to not attend the USEF Selection Trial for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games Dressage Team held at the Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF Festival of Champions for logistical reasons. The USEF Selectors met on July 27 to approve his request to be considered for the Short List/Nominated Entry and Fourth position on the team without attending the USEF Selection Trials for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games Dressage Team held at the Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF Festival of Champions in accordance with USEF World Equestrian Games Dressage Criteria. Congratulations to Mandy Porter and LaMarque!

Mandy Porter, riding LaMarque (stallion, owned by Wild Turkey Farm) were winners in the $30,000 Grand Meadows Grand Prix at the Equestrian Classic I (AA) held July 27-Aug. 1 at the new Sonoma Horse Park. Mandy is the owner of ACP Enterprises, Inc. in Del Mar and has won several Grands Prix over the past few years. Special thanks goes to Grand Meadows for sponsoring the Grand Prix!

Help Sought for Horseman in Need - Justin Cogbill Hospitalized

During a Sacramento horse show in June, Justin Cogbill suddenly collapsed while building a course before a class. The young man, who can often be found building courses at shows, lost feeling in his feet and legs. He has been in the hospital ever since, having been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome.

Proposed CA Legislation Against Non-vet Equine Bodyworkers, Chiropractors and Dentists
There is a bill going through the legislative process in California AB 1980. This bill would make it illegal for your massage therapist, chiropractor, equine cranial sacral therapist, equine dentist, or equine body worker to continue to provide their services to you and your horse if they are not a veterinarian. There is a possibility that Chiropractors would not be affected by the bill but it is not clear in the language of the bill. Keep reading ...

Elizabeth Ball Wins Trilogy Saddle “Best Seat” Award at Young Horse Championships

Elizabeth Ball and her stunning black American-bred Hanoverian, Selten HW, made history at the Markel/USEF National Young Horse Dressage Championships when they clinched the Six-Year-Old division, after having already won the Four-Year-Old and Five-Year-Old Championships in previous years. Gelato and Nick Haness Take the Cake in the $10,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby

Thirty-one duos galloped around the grand prix field in the $10,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby on Saturday afternoon at the Del Mar Horse Park. With weather in the 70’s and not a drop of humidity, it was an ideal setting to show off a high performance hunter. When thirteen returned for a challenging handy round, it was young professional Nick Haness and his mount Gelato (Conor Perrin, owner) who earned the top score, topping Forbes and Jenny Karizissis for the win. Menlo Charity Horse Show • August 10-15

An estimated 500 equestrians are headed to the 40th running of the Menlo Charity Show at the Menlo Circus Club in the Bay Area’s Atherton. The competition has received rave reviews from participants and spectators alike and won many “Best Show” awards over the years. In addition to everything from leadline classes to top flight Grand Prix jumping, Menlo features 40 vendors offering clothing, fine jewelry and items for the home, garden and stable.

Amateur Dressage Showcase • August 14-15

The San Diego Chapter of the California Dressage Society is honored to host this year’s Southern Regional Adult Amateur Competition. The mission of this competition is to provide an opportunity for all CDS Adult Amateur riders to qualify and compete against others of similar skills and experience. The regional nature of these shows helps provide the adult dressage rider with a developmental path for gaining competitive experience, promote excellence and increase awareness of and support for the CDS Chapters.

Southern California’s adult amateurs have been working hard to qualify for this event from Training Level to Intermediaire. Spectators will be treated to the best competitive dressage that the amateur level has to offer.
