Publisher's Notes

Last month my husband Steve and I cashed in on our timeshare vacation and headed to Cabo San Jose for a relaxing week by the beach. Steve had to work part of the time, but I really needed a week off of hanging out in the pool and having nothing on the agenda. We had a fun evening ride on the beach. Our horses were excellent athletes and we had a fun time galloping on the beach.

Back to work I’m feeling very well. Thanks to all of you that have stopped by to check in with me. I had a recent check up and all is well so far. I’m also having fun leasing Positano. I plan on showing him this month at the Greater San Diego Hunter Jumper shows at Del Mar Horsepark. I’ve been making some extra horse money by photographing, videotaping, announcing at the Del Sol Classic, and added a new skill, running the show office for Sweetwater Farms. It’s good to have many skills, especially these days. I’m really enjoying running the back gate. It’s almost as much fun as showing. During the Del Sol Classic 2’6” low children’s and adult division, I had seven hunter score cards going with open scoring for the last two rounds. So it was quite a time of juggling it all, trying to keep everyone happy and the show moving. Thanks for all of your compliments on how I was handling it all.

Last month we already had our first fire drill of the season. On Aug. 21, Nancy Reed called to tell me there was a fire near Hazy Meadow in Lakeside. As I drove over the hill I called her back and said I’d get her truck as it looked pretty close. I posted photos from my phone to Facebook and called my husband Steve to bring our rig down for horses without trailers. Thanks to all of you that posted you were ready to jump in to help if needed. All of this technology is definitely a help in these emergency situations. Lucky for us, the fire airplanes and helicopters stopped the fire from coming our way and the wind was in our favor.

We have in this issue a lot of really good articles. Thank you to all of you that wrote stories and letters to the editor for us. I’m sure you will enjoy this issue. Be sure to send us your story ideas for our monthly issues, our weekly eNews and follow our breaking news on our Facebook page and our website.

Happy Riding!
