Tim Grubb
British and American show jumping team member Tim Grubb died May 13 at the age of 55. He was reportedly about to get on a horse when he died of congestive heart failure.
An international competitor throughout the 1970s-1990s, Grubb was born in Great Britain and helped earn Olympic silver for his home country at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles. He was also part of Great Britain’s 1980 Alternative Olympic team and its 1992 Barcelona Olympics squad. He moved to the United States in 1978 and became an American citizen after his marriage to U.S. show jumper Michele McEvoy.
Described as charismatic and inspiring, Grubb was living in California but was in Illinois at the time of his death.

Champion Mare Rona Doc
Georgiana and Steve Rodrigues of The Residual Ranch have announced the passing of their champion mare, Rona Doc, who was 30.
Originally owned, bred and trained by Roberta and Jim McCarty, Rona Doc was out of the mare Jaymee Miss Blue by Broadway Doc. Jim started showing Rona as a 3 and 4 year old in Hackamore Stock Horse Classes. She won at such shows as the Del Mar National Horse Show and The Cares Horse Show. As a 4-year-old, Rona was Pacific Coast Horse Shows Assn., Reserve Champion Hackamore Horse. As a Green Stock Horse, Rona was Champion at the Channel City Horse Show in Santa Barbara. That same year, she was Green Stock Horse Champion at The Del Mar National Horse Show. Rona was PCHA Reserve Champion Green Stock that same year.
Georgiana and Steve Rodrigues purchased Rona Doc as an 8-year-old. Georgiana went on to show her in Amateur Stock Horse Classes. Rona and Georgiana were Reserve Champions at the Cow Palace and various other horse shows. In 1989, Rona and Georgiana were Pacific Coast Horse Show Assn., Champion Adult/Amateur Stock Horse.
In 1990, Rona Doc was American Horse Shows Association Horse of the Year Amateur Stock Horse. Rona was also American Horse Show Assn., Zone 10 Champion as well as Horse of the Year the following year.
After that, reining was becoming prominent, so Georgiana proceeded to change Rona into a reining horse. Something she was able to do. In 1995 Rona Doc showed in her first reining event and won, competing against 54 horses and having to run-off with another horse.
Rona Doc and Georgiana also showed in the PCHA Baker Reining Classic for 11 years, placing in the top 10 for 10 years. She won the Rookie Division in the Baker Classic when the Finals were held during the Orange County Fair.
Rona Doc was officially retired in a formal retirement ceremony in 2002 before the Baker Reining Classic Finals, where she received a standing ovation after performing and having her sliding shoes removed.
Rona Doc will certainly be remembered by those who owned her, and those that were lucky enough to see her perform. She will be missed.
The 2010 Baker Reining Classic Finals will be dedicated to her memory.
