Unknown Mare Takes Local Championship

An Arabian mare from a backyard barn entered The Golden Gate Arabian Horse Association’s March show in the Dressage Suitability Class and beat seasoned competitors hands down in her first competition.

Owner Kathy Campbell and trainer Cheryl Krug decided at the last minute to enter KHS Rhapsody in the show because she was doing so well in her dressage training and pleasure riding. They consulted with two other trainers that specialize in Arabians and both felt Rhapsody was ready to show competitively.

Rhapsody’s breeder, Mary Christopherson, owner of Oakley Equestrian Center in Contra Costa County’s Oakley is university educated in livestock husbandry. She has 30 years experience breeding and successfully showing Arabian horses. “I’ve known hapsody possesses the ability to excel in competitions for a long time because her parents were exceptional horses,” Christopherson says. “I’m excited that her owners decided to let the horse show community see how wonderful she is as well.”

“The judge was emphatic in her verbal appreciation of Rhapsody as a potential dressage horse due to her natural lightness of gait and overall quality,” the breeder continues. “She encouraged Campbell and Krug to show the mare in dressage competitions this summer.”
