Karen Healey Stables Students Win at California Shows

The riders of Karen Healey Stables in Orange stayed busy in April. Addy Graves placed first in the PCHA Horsemanship class, first in the Onondarka Medal and first in the THIS National Children’s Medal at the Gold Coast series at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center.

Samantha Harrison showed her mare Santika at the Pebble Beach Spring Horse Shows, too, and placed first in the $3,500 Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic. Harrison also competed for a spot on the B team in the North American Junior Young Rider Trials.
At the Oaks Blenheim Spring Classic II, Healey trained her many other students, including Alex Block, who showed Tammy Chipko’s All That and was reserve champion of the Large Junior Hunter 16 -17 division. Holly Dickinson showed HMG Farm’s Beckham and placed first overall in the WIHS Equitation Classic after a first place finish in the jumper phase. She also placed first over fences in the Equitation 15-17.

Other Healey students who enjoyed success include Kylee Arbuckle, Kristi Siam, Hannah Selleck, Carol Bird, Mackensie Baker and Kasey Ament.

Glenn County Sheriff’s Posse’s Poker Ride

Nearly 200 riders turned out for the 19th Annual Glenn County Sheriff’s Posse’s Poker Ride in Elk Creek. The three-hour adventure took riders over hills, streams and rugged trails, prior to stopping at four checkpoints to pick their cards. Lindsey and Mike Murdock won the silver belt buckles for their full house at the ride.

HITS Heroes

Lucy Davis was awarded the Shalanno Style of Riding Award during Desert Circuit VIII at HITS Thermal. This award is presented to the Junior Jumper rider who best exemplifies the American style of equitation as modeled by Olympic medalists Joe Fargis, Conrad Homfeld and George Morris. The award recipient must have the respectful, dignified, courteous and workmanlike manner of a true sportsman.

“It’s a tremendous honor to win such a prestigious award,” said Davis. “It’s great knowing that all of my hard work has paid off in winning this award.”

Other perpetual trophy winners include: Potcreek Meadow Farm Junior Sportsman Award: Richard Neal; Jimmy Kohn Style of Riding Award: Joie Gatlin; Michael Patrick Grand Hunter Champion: Titlist 8, ridden and owned by Didi McKenzie; Catena Leading Lady Rider Award (Leading Female Grand Prix Rider): Ashlee Bond; The Jennifer Marlborough Freeman Memorial Trophy: Hollister and Alison Baileys.

The Dressage Affaire Highlights

At the Dressage Affaire Open Show and CDI, March 13-15 in beautiful Del Mar, Steffen Peters skillfully rode Akiko Yamazaki’s Ravel to win the last North American League World Cup Qualifier. The pair dominated the entire CDI, winning both the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Freestyle with two career highs, one in the Grand Prix and second in the GP Freestyle with an impressive 79.950%. Finishing second in the Grand Prix Freestyle was Leslie Morse riding her own Tip Top 962. Morse and Tip Top earned a score of 73.600%.

Guenter Seidel and UII won another blue ribbon in the FEI Intermediarie-1 CDI Division in the second phase of the qualifying class. They earned their win with a score of 71.373%. Taking second place in the CDI Prix St. George class was another veteran, Steffen’s wife Shannon Peters. She was close behind Seidel with a score of 69.421% riding Flor de Selva.

Nick Wagman of San Diego and his mare Uforia topped the Open Grand Prix division with a winning score of 63.532% under the CDI ground jury. Wagman was also on top of the leader board in the Open Prix St. Georges. He won the impressive class of 16 riders, with a score of 70.526%. Wagman rode Elizabeth Keadle’s Radley, an 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding by Krack C out of Bienvenue.
