Horses and riders of all levels who are interested in competing in jumpers and equitation medal classes are invited to join Cora Treadway-Cook at Cayetano Ridge in the East Bay Area’s Livermore. An up and coming trainer who emphasizes the quality of the relationship between horse and rider, Cora has openings for new clients to join Winterose Training.
Cora’s equine career started at the age of 5 when a local trainer encouraged Cora’s mom to bring her out the barn one day. She was immediately hooked and proceeded to train with the woman for the next 15 years and has been riding ever since.

There are two horses that had a major impact on Cora’s understanding of the importance of trust in the relationship between horse and rider. Her pony Winter had been dubbed “crazy” by everyone who knew him. But Winter and Cora bonded and “he would do things for me that he wouldn’t do for anyone else,” Cora says with a smile.
Rose was an off-the-track Thoroughbred that also had a reputation for crazy behavior. But under Cora’s guidance the pair earned the Children Jumper Champion title in NorCal in 1999 and came in a strong third in the PCHA standings. Cora named her training business after these two gems.

“My training rates are reasonably priced because I want people of all levels of experience and financial backgrounds to be able to pursue riding,” Cora explains. “Winterose is a friendly atmosphere for those who love the sport.” She also notes that riders don’t necessarily have to own a horse to be in training. “We’re horse people who want to have fun while riding and competing.”
Winterose participates in a wide variety of schooling shows including USEF, PCHA and NorCal “B” rated competitions, with an occasional “A” and “C” rated show thrown in for good measure. Cora also likes to get her students out of the arena to enjoy new experiences in places like Del Valle Park, Mt. Diablo and even the coast. “Well rounded horses are happy horses,” Cora observes. Cora is also available to help her clients buy a new horse or sell one they’ve outgrown.
