lines.

Horses give their owners so much joy and happiness through the years. Then comes the day when it’s time to retire these majestic animals from professional showing. What does one do? A kind and loving solution is to send them to spend their days grazing 250 acres of rolling hills in Sonoma County at the Lazy Days Equine Retirement Facility.

The Cordas, Trina and Gene and their daughter Janna, have, in their own words, “had horses forever.” The family is third generation in the horse breeding business and Janna spent the last 10 years building a successful training business. When the Cordas decided to scale back their training business a bit they took a good look at their land dotted with a beautiful 23-stall barn and a 10-stall mare barn and opened their doors for this new phase of business.

The family spent years raising Hunter Under Saddle horses and are quite experienced at handling the bigger, more sensitive breeds. Their 29-year-old stallion Dakota Te was, in his day, on the leading AQHA sires lists and boasted get with both World and Congress Championships.

Janna started showing in the Quarter Horse futurities as a youth. She qualified and won the AQHYA’s World Hunter Under Saddle when she was just 16 years old on Willy Te Wiffic. “We’ve seen every aspect of the business,” explains Trina, “from breeding, raising, and training to showing at all levels of the Quarter Horse circuit. We’ve traveled to major shows extensively throughout the United States, including the AQHA World Show and Quarter Horse Congress.”

Lazy Days is an all-inclusive equine retirement facility, fully dedicated to the care and well-being of retired performance horses. The Cordas and their staff, which includes long time employee Juan Vallejo, treat elderly horses with the utmost kindness, dignity and respect. They provide personalized attention and offer a choice of retirement packages to suit different needs.

Customized Care Packages

The Cordas are well connected in the equine world. After consulting with a variety of trainers and people in different disciplines, including hunter/jumper, dressage, reining and cutting, they developed three specialized packages. All packages are fully customizable depending on the individual requirements of each horse. These packages can be viewed online at www.lazydayserf.com. If there is a need for specific supplements or special handling, the Cordas will provide it. They also offer trailering services in their extra high, extra wide horse trailer.

All horses are closely supervised daily. In the event there is a need for medical attention, the Cordas have a good working relationship with three excellent local veterinarians.

Lazy Days is located near the tiny hamlet of Valley Ford, just 45 minutes north of San Francisco, 15 minutes from beautiful Bodega Bay and 45 minutes from the renowned Sonoma and Napa wine country. The temperatures are mild enough to keep old creaky joints happy in winter and comfortable in the summer. Summer temperatures rarely exceed 85 degrees.

Additionally, the Cordas are also breeders of Miniature Parti Schnauzers, and welcome visitors interested in this lovely breed. All of their dogs are American Kennel Club (AKC) registered and vary in colors, including black and white, liver (chocolate) and white, solid liver and salt and pepper.

The Cordas are looking forward to helping horse owners and their retired equine friends.
