Say Hay!
Family run Harlan Feed has been a premium feed supplier for over 150 years.

It was the early 1850s and young men were flocking to California to seek their fortunes in gold. But unlike most of the 49ers, Abraham Barnes had a different plan. He settled in Yolo County and began farming. Soon he sent for his only daughter, Grace. On her way to California Grace met Joseph Helm Harlan, who was driving his ox team and supply of cattle across country from Virginia. The pair eventually married and purchased the Barnes’ homestead, living and farming there for the rest of their lives.

Six generations later, the Harlan Ranch is still family owned and operated. Over the years the ranch has changed many times, varying crops and adapting new technology, but a few things have never changed. For the past 150 years everyone at Harlan Ranch has remained stewards of land dedicated to providing Californians with high quality agricultural products and premium feeds. “I truly enjoy the process of following the crops from the field to the finished products, and the interactions between us and our customers,” says Blake Harlan.

Caryl Chrisman adds, “As an employee who uses the products produced by the Harlan family it is a pleasure to be a witness to the dedication to quality that makes up the daily agendas.”

Yolo County is known around the world as an agricultural region that consistently produces superior agricultural products. The region’s climate, along with Harlan‘s irrigation networks and large storage capacity, allows the ranch to deliver products year round. They currently have a wide selection of feed products available including: alfalfa cubes, oat/alfalfa cubes (80 percent alfalfa, 20 percent oat), oat/alfalfa/corn cubes (75 percent alfalfa, 20 percent oat, 5 percent corn) and alfalfa pellets.

In a business where you’re only as good as the products you provide, Harlan Ranch goes the extra mile to ensure their products are of the
finest quality.

All alfalfa and oat hay is grown on land managed by Harlan Ranch. The alfalfa hay is field tested for Total Digestive Nutrients (TDN) and protein. From bale to cube, the entire milling process is done on a concrete platform and under a bay that is connected to the warehouse. This prevents prolonged exposure to adverse weather and moisture, which makes for a better feed product.

“At Harlan Ranch we understand that our continued success hinges on the support of our community, which is why we gladly reinvest and support our community,” says Blake. “We look forward to meeting with you in the future and learning more about your feeding needs.”
“We are very excited and grateful to Morgan Cromer, the Open Champion of the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Assn. Futurity,” Caryl says. “Morgan feeds our Oat/Alfalfa Hay Cubes to her stable of top level cutting horses. At the recent futurity in Paso Robles, Morgan had three horses in the finals. Not a bad testimonial to the trust that she puts in us as suppliers of the feed that fuels her performance horses!”
