The company’s slogan says it all—they are the “Artisan of Dreams.” The Devoucoux slogan is highly appropriate, after all, the company’s story reads a bit like a dream. In less than 25 years, Devoucoux founder Jean-Michel Devoucoux, an ex-apprentice groom from Biarritz, France, has developed Devoucoux into a world leader in luxury saddles.
He started off in 1985 with nothing but a small workshop in the Basque village of Sare. Jean-Michel now runs a team of over 60 employees; together they manufacture and sell over 3,000 custom saddles as well as thousands of accessories worldwide.
In 1999 Devoucoux launched its equestrian product line in the United States, and the rest is history. But the size of Devoucoux or how many countries carry his line matters little to Jean-Michel. His passion is, and will remain, for building the most innovative, highest quality saddles for both the horse and rider.
Devoucoux’s catalog includes 13 models of saddles, which are available in as many colors and sizes. There are literally millions of combinations per saddle model. The catalog also includes an extensive line of accessories designed to enhance the horse and rider’s performance. Devoucoux ranks among the top of custom crafted equestrian products, designed for all riders and mounts of all types, whether for competition or pleasure.
Jean-Michel and the Devoucoux staff also proudly sponsor some of the world’s best and brightest equestrians across all disciplines, and often consults with them in developing new equipment. Joie Gatlin, Jill Humphrey, Laura Kraut, Ali Nilforushan, Phillip Dutton and Mandy Porter, who represented the U.S. at the Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping Final in Gothenburg, Sweden, are just a few of the many proven riders Devoucoux supports. Recently, Devoucoux was also endorsed by the one and only George Morris.
But Devoucoux doesn’t back just Olympians and established professionals, they also sponsor many up and coming riders such as Amanda Tallman, Brenna Bollig and Laura Teodori, who just won the $100,000 Grand Prix at the Del Mar National. They also believe in supporting their aspiring in-house champions—the region west sales team of Marya Jefferson, Brittany Haynie, Nicole Guerrant and Lorane Matarazzo as well as West Coast Regional manager Paul Rochettee.
The truth behind Devoucoux’s success can be summed up in one sentence: Jean-Michel Devoucoux knows only one gait, gallop.
