“People start calling us in August to ask for the dates of our big tent sale, some want to know so they can plan their vacations around the sale,” explains Dale Blasius, owner of Mary’s Tack and Feed. Perhaps that’s because Mary’s Annual Tent Sale at their Del Mar location is more than just a sale -- it’s an event!
“We want people to walk away with more than just great deals. The annual sale is an opportunity for families, friends and farms to have a good time together. In the process they can win prizes and learn about new products. Our sale is great at bringing people together, we’ve seen riding buddies from different counties who have been out of touch for years, meet up at the sale,” notes Dale.
The sale kicks off on Friday, Feb. 15 and runs through Feb. 17, with store hours from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Sunday. As usual, Mary’s will be closed on Thursday, Feb 14, the day before the sale, so over 50 extra employees can set up a 120 foot tent in Mary’s parking lot and diligently stock the boxes of extra merchandise brought in just for the sale.
Mary’s Annual Tent Sale offers customers more than just their best discounts of the year, with hundreds of in-store specials and numerous products priced under their market value; the sale also offers individuals a chance to learn a lot more about the products they use. Vendors from around the world are flying in to represent their products at the sale, and over 30 company representatives will be scattered throughout Mary’s during the sale to answer specific questions about their products. KL Select, Tokat, Charles Owen, Pessoa, Heritage Gloves, Barnsby Saddles, Purina, Adeptus, Pfizer/Solitude, Lubrisyn and Tucker Saddles are just a few of the manufacturers that will have representatives at the sale.
Taco’s Angel will also be returning this year to provide shoppers with free food and drinks, and there will be door prizes, raffles and constant giveaways throughout the three-day sale. Every person who comes to the tent sale also receives a scratch off ticket that offers additional discounts and prizes. Dale says they give away at least three saddles every year as prizes, usually two close-contact english saddles and one western saddle.
“We want it to be fun,” says Dale. “Customers can participate in mini auctions in the aisle; for example, we will grab a halter and start bidding at 25 cents. Someone can end up walking away with a halter for $4. Other times we’ll give a gift card to the first two people that can come up and show us a picture of their horse…”
