Tasty treats are healthy, too!

Barn Bites grew out of Laura McEvoy’s personal need for a horse treat that was truly sugar free. She had an older lesson horse that had Cushings that she wanted to be able to reward with a treat that tasted good but had no sugar in it and the proper amount of Omega-3 fatty acids.

Many horse cookies claim to have no sugar, but when you read the ingredients, you find things like molasses, applesauce, evaporated cane juice and so on. Of course, all of these things are just variations of sugar. So what do you give a horse that cannot, or should not, have sugar? Laura decided to make her own, right in her own kitchen using her equine nutrition education to come up with the right recipe for a healthy and tasty treat. She experimented for years with various ingredients, flavorings, proportions, baking times and packaging materials.

Along the way it occurred to her that she could not only make them sugar free and tasty, but she could also make them beneficial to the horses’ health by boosting the Omega-3 fatty acids. That’s when the real testing began. What she ended up with was a cookie that not only has no sugar, but contains 6.86 g per ounce of Omega-3 fatty acids, which is twice the number of any leading brand of horse treat you’ll find on the shelf today.

Healthy, sugar free, low carb, low starch horse treats!

The Barn Bite Sugar Free Horse Treats contain ground flax seed, flax oil, (sources of Omega-3 fatty acids), ground chia seeds (more Omega-3, protein, anti-oxidants, fiber), ground cinnamon (which makes them smell good), vanilla flavoring and stevia (for a little sweetness).

The line includes the sugar free treat, and three other varieties including the sugar free Soft Center, Relaxed and Focused and Forward and Focused. The focused treats are not sugar free and have molasses in them to make the focus ingredients more palatable.  The Soft Centers have dimples filled with soynut butter, which is great way to insert horse medications and easily get them into your horse. The Relaxed and Focused and Forward and Focused treats are proprietary blends of amino acids and minerals that, when combined, have a synergistic effect which increases focus and a relaxed attitude. Most horses seem more focused on their job and less bothered by outside influences. These treats do not contain any substances on the current USEF or FEI list of prohibited substances.

Many horse owners and vets love Barn Bites and you can read the many testimonials on their site www.BarnBites.com or call 755-313-5131 to order your horse treats or find out more information.
