Menlo Charity Show
Aug. 8-13 in Atherton

Special classes and social events dominate this Northern California fixture that draws participants from throughout the West Coast.

Pony and adult “paloozas” gather like-minded riders throughout the week for off-the-horse fun and refreshments. The $40,000 Stephen Silver Grand Prix is the marquee event Saturday evening, concurrent with the Bayhill Equine BBQ on the polo field and followed by the USHJA World Championship Hunter Rider Southwest Regional Awards Presentation, including dinner and an Ariat fashion show. Earlier in the week, there’s the $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby and a welcome dinner for exhibitors on Tuesday.

The biggest financial beneficiary is the Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, but every year exhibitors also benefit from the fun, fine staging and excellent competition that are Menlo’s trademarks.

CDS Junior/Young Rider Championships – South
Aug. 12-13 in Del Mar

The California Dressage Society’s young members have been working all year to qualify for their own annual championship. The Northern Championships took place the last week of July in Rancho Murieta and the Southern edition is set for the Del Mar Horse Park Aug. 12-13, with the San Diego CDS Chapter as host. Along with the great competition between tomorrow’s stars, a highlight of the weekend is expected to be the International-themed competitors party on Friday night. Barns and riders are encouraged to dress up themselves and their tack rooms to reflect a favorite country and provide tasties from that region to party-goers. This fun opener is sponsored by Mary’s Tack & Feed.

Along with the standard youth dressage classes, special divisions exist for US Pony Club members and eventers, plus quadrille, pas de deux and equitation classes. Lots of fun for exhibitors and spectators.
